Subscription Order Bump - Recurring Payments Not Creating Shopify Orders

Hello everyone,

I ran into an issue while setting up a subscription order bump and would appreciate any guidance.

Here is my setup:
• I created an order bump that includes a subscription.
• In automations, I added two actions:
• One for the initial purchase
• One for the recurring payment
• Both actions are connected to the same product in Shopify.
• I also added a 1-month trial period, where the first month is cheaper than the following months.

This is where the issue starts:
• The first order is created successfully in Shopify.
• Recurring payments are processed correctly in Stripe and PayPal every month.
• However, after the first order, no new orders are created in Shopify, even though the recurring payments continue to go through.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows how to make Shopify generate a new order for each recurring payment?

Thanks for raising this issue, sorry that you ran into it.

We’re aware of a bug that is happening with the recurring payment order syncing properly to Shopify when the payment is done by Paypal.

Due to this what happens is the initial orders sync fine but not the recurring one despite the recurring charge is done in Paypal.

The good news is that we already have a fix for it and we’re rolling it out hopefully within this week, so as soon as this is we’ll notify you in this thread.

If this is also happening with your orders done via Stripe, please reach out to support with the following so we can investigate this further:

Hey @matt_stoney I completely understand the impact of this bug.

To clarify for everyone following this thread:

  • The issue affects recurring PayPal subscription renewals
  • Initial orders sync correctly, and Stripe orders shouldn’t be affected, but we’re double checking them too.
  • Recurring payments process successfully
  • The renewal order is not being created in Shopify

This is not expected behavior, and it’s already been addressed on our side.

A fix has already been developed and is currently being rolled out

We’ll also update this thread as soon as the rollout is fully completed so everyone has full visibility.

Hi @matt_stoney,

We wanted to keep you posted with the updates regarding the fix on the Paypal bug.

The team has already built a fix for it and is currently testing it in beta. If QA doesn’t find any issues, it will be deployed at the end of this day.

As soon as the fix is rolled out I’ll keep you posted here in this thread.
