PayPal subscriptions aren't syncing to Shopify on rebills

Hi.

So my initial subscriptions via Funnelish PayPal > Shopify work just fine. Even upsells. Everything is charged normally and the order is created on Shopify.

However, when the rebill period occurs and a new monthly order should be sent to Shopify, all that happens is the customer is charged for the amount they bought and that’s it.

No new order is sent to Shopify.

  1. How do I fix this? Do I need to make some kind of automation aside from the ones I created in checkout products for the original orders?
  2. How can I retroactively fix the old orders that aren’t syncing once I’ve fixed that?

This issue sounds related to how PayPal handles rebill notifications with Shopify sync. Stripe doesn’t have this problem because it communicates differently.

I’d recommend you reach out to the live support team directly so they can check your setup from the backend. They’ll help make sure your PayPal rebills sync properly and also guide you on how to handle the past orders.

  2. Screenshot of the product automation (on purchase and recurring payments)
  3. Share a Subscription ID or Payment Intent ID of 2 examples of the failed renewals so we can check it with our dev team.

PayPal subscription rebills should now sync correctly to Shopify moving forward.

This fix was released alongside several other improvements and updates.

FYI for anyone who reads this thread, this issue HAS NOT BEEN fixed.

New and old subscriptions on PayPal do not sync to Shopify, only the initial order does. I’ve spoken to numerous other people who use Funnelish who have the same problem.

Not only that, but many people can’t even get Stripe to sync rebills either.

Not blaming the random support agents who gaslit me over chats, but I waited like literally 5 months for someone to update me or fix this issue - and was told it was fixed awhile ago.

I can 100% confirm that it is NOT FIXED. I’ve tested it on new and old subscriptions.

So if you are someone who needs MRR rebills with Funnelish, you will either have to custom code a solution that creates the orders on Shopify after PayPal is rebilled, or use a different platform.

The “update” that was linked here by AnaB literally doesn’t even mention this bug. They mention an entirely different PayPal bug.

Funnelish DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY to sync PayPal rebills. I’m not even sure if they understand the issue lol.

By order details, essentially we would need:

  1. Your checkout page URL
  2. 1/2 customer email samples of recent subscription orders which weren’t synced.
  3. A confirmation that automations were already checked.. (I assume they were if you face this issue for long).
